About Steph
Stephanie is a Boston-based photo assistant and photographer. She completed her intensive 10-month program at Hallmark Institute of Photography in June 2007. The program focused on the art, business and technical aspects of creating images.
Growing up in Westfield, Massachusetts her parents fostered a creative environment and always encouraged her to follow her passions. She attended the University of Massachusetts – Amherst after high school. Steph worked as a whitewater raft guide and now as their photographer at CrabApple Whitewater on the Deerfield River in Charlemont, Massachusetts. It was through these experiences that she became eager to learn professional photography and business skills that she could build a career on.
Hallmark Institute of Photography was an ideal setting to learn all the necessary skills, using state-of-the-art equipment, in a ten-month program and get out into the professional working environment. She had the privilege of using the school’s Leaf Aptus 22 digital back with her Mamiya camera over the course of the year. She developed a keen understanding of lighting techniques in both portrait and commercial settings. Most valuable was the use of the large format view camera and how it guided her to understand a specific quality of light to maximize the potential of the subject and do it all on film.
Now she is beginning her career in Boston and the surrounding area and looking forward to where her skills will take her.
