It’s this little moment, probably just a few seconds, that’s why I’m there. To be there for the genuine shock, surprise, happiness and excitement of the person you love getting down on one knee.
Justin (like all the guys I’ve worked with on proposal shoots) was methodical and strategic about how we planned this little moment. Where I would be, where they would be, Plan A, Plan B, Plan C….. all the way through Plan H.
It was a week before Thanksgiving and still touches of green, red and orange hung in the trees with clear blue skies. Cool enough to wear a jacket, scarf, gloves but warm enough to take them off for a few pictures.
Yes of course she said yes!
And once Justin pointed me out to Jenni we snapped a few quick portraits.
Below is a photo I snapped before we were even shooting the proposal. It’s Jenni and Justin getting their photo taken by a passerby. Plan A was to do the proposal on the bridge (the first proposal I ever shot was there, check out this 2009 series). As anticipated the bridge felt crowded in that moment and Justin sent me a quick text to say we were going with Plan B and to move over toward toward the Japanese Lantern around the pond. A good choice so they had a little more breathing room.
My favorite moment was just after the proposal happened, a young girl saw it and said loudly, “Did they just get married?”
Love the pics. My daughter and her honey just got engaged and the “secret” photographer got some great shots as well. The series of emotions on her face were priceless. From annoyance ( it was dark and the flash was bright on the first shot) to puzzlement to amazement to joy and finally tears.
