I do a lot of work with MIT on various projects and they’re always so interesting and inspiring. I find myself asking lots of questions about their expertise in genetics, climate change, biology, brain science, etc… and this event over the summer was for the launch of the K Lisa Yang Center for Bionics at MIT.

Lots of moving pieces and one of those was portraits with Robert Downey Jr.

I told some friends about this event and the first thing they asked “Was he nice?” Yes. Of course I like anyone that shows up early because that is core to my existence.
Celebrity photography isn’t something I do much of, it was clearly an important, high profile event and I was honored that I was called on to capture it.

While photographing events my brain can often switch into work mode where I disconnect from listening 100% and am just thinking about light and angles but I found myself tuning into the discussion about universal design to accommodate all abilities, the future of bionics and how that technology can be more accessible. Really exciting stuff.

The stage event kicked off with a beautiful performance by Anubhava Dance Company.
