Make It Work, Part One: Rainy Day Family Session

It’s been nearly impossible to escape the rain since Sunday. As I blog the sound of heavy raindrops on the roof could be soothing but my wet feet would argue otherwise. Sunday I had two photo sessions and it was a must that they stay on schedule. So I took a breath and had a “Tim Gunn, Make it Work” moment.
How could I not make it work?? If you’re in the business of weddings, you have to be confident in your ability to turn rain into an opportunity. Of course we wanted sun, we wanted to roll around on the grass but we came away with something better.

What you see is a gorgeous picture of this family. The colors! The green from the trees, striped purple leggings and the crisp white porch. What you don’t see is the downpour happening just beyond the cover over head. If I could bottle this light that’s going on here I could sell it to fellow photographers, even on a sunny day!

Rainy days indoors = jumping on the couch.

As I was packing up all my gear there was an impromptu indoor picnic happening right on the living room floor. Too cute!

Tomorrow I’ll show you Make It Work, Part Two: Rainy Day Senior Session.

Love her little flexed foot in that last shot – such a perfectly captured moment!
