I met Cathi at a networking event a few weeks ago and right off the bat we blew past exchanging business cards and idle chatter. She started to tell me about this photograph of her two boys…. now men, but still very much her boys. This photo was taken almost 20 years ago, no doubt on film and immortalized as a cherished 8×10 in a wood frame.
She’s been wanting to recreate this image. Recreate it down to the white t-shirts with their hands tucked into the pockets and behind their back, bare feet on a white backdrop. So the boys came together for family dinner and a photoshoot in their Mom’s apartment. We moved the dining room table and I set up a backdrop and lights while they caught up and shared youtube videos and we snapped a few photos before dinner.
I love how they’re enjoying a TGIF kind of beer, recreating this new memory almost 20 years after this other memory. The photos will definitely sit side by side on a shelf somewhere and the family can reminisce over the boys before, between and after these two shoots.
And that’s exactly why I do what I do, to commemorate milestones in a family’s life, even if the milestone is that everyone in the photo was looking at the camera and smiling. {and sometimes not, but that’s okay too}
What a great idea,those will be treasured memories! xxo #1fan
Steph, remember when you helped me out with the headshots for dancing? You did this inadvertently! One of the portrait shots is like the 25 year old version of a picture from when I was four; same pose, same smile, same everything except that I’m not wearing a black and white houndstooth dress. My parents have them both framed on and on either side of the mantel. My mom loves it.
